Do I need to hire a local website designer?

Absolutely not. That's what is great about the internet - business is global. We have clients not four miles from our office and clients across the United States.

What is a domain name or URL?

Domain names are the familiar and easy to remember web page names that begin with the WWW that every website begins with. URL stands for "universal resource locator". This is the address typed in to view your webpage, ie your 'domain'. Our domain and URL is www.mesaverdewebdesign.com.

What is the difference between .com/.net/.org domains?

While some rules govern domains from different countries, the .com, .net, and .org name spaces are basically under the 'first come first served' basis. The only restrictions for domains are potential copyright infringement, and these are pretty tough to prosecute.

  1. .COMmercial, use for business, personal, and general. There are about 10 times more .com's than any other TLD (top level domain). The .com is the hottest domain property on the Internet (ever heard of a .org millionaire?) To date, there are over 22 million .com domains registered!

  2. .NETwork was originally intended for companies & organizations that offer services related to the Internet. While this was the original design, the sheer amount of .coms that have been registered has led to a significant spill-over into the .net name space.

  3. .ORGanization domains are generally considered appropriate for non-profit and other like organizations. There are about 1/2 .org domains as .net domains, but there are still spill-overs from the .com name space. Often, what will now happen is a client will want to protect a name, and will register all three.

How long will it take you to revise my site once I send you updates?

We attempt to make updates within hours. At worse, your site will be updated before the next business day. That's quick.

Can I use you just to design my site and use my own hosting?

Absolutely. You just supply us with your hosting details and we take it from there.

How much will a website cost me?

Contrary to what so many web designers and hosts tell you, hosting does not have to cost you an arm or a leg. We offer extremely affordable hosting plans depending on your website needs, starting at just $199 for a simple website.

Once I get my domain name, is it possible for me to change it?

Unfortunately, once a domain name is registered, we are not able to modify the domain name. It's not a matter of our policy, but rather the way the domain name registration system works. Once a domain goes in, it is final. Be careful with spelling and ensure the name you provide for registration is the one you want.

How often will I have to renew my domain?

That depends on how long you want to renew it for. You can renew your domain name from 1-9 years ahead. We usually recommend two to three years at a time.

Can I sell my products online?

Yes. What you will need will depend upon how you want to sell your products. If you simply want to display your products and have your customer call you to make a purchase, then you already have everything you need!

If you wish to have customers buy online using a credit card, you will need a Shopping Cart. We can provide a shopping cart that will be hosted on a secure server. However, if you want to have credit card transactions automatically processed, then you will also need a Payment Gateway.

What is a shopping cart?

A shopping cart is a special piece of software that allows a visitor to your site to browse through your products in a secure environment, then allows them to purchase them, automatically calculating any taxes, shipping costs, or any other additional fees to come up with a final total. The shopping cart will then do various things like email a receipt to your customer, email you with the customer and order details to let you know you have received an order, and lots more.

What is a Merchant Account?

A merchant account allows you to accept credit card orders whether online or not, however for a website you will need to make your merchant account has an online option. You can usually arrange this through your financial institution or we can help you select one that suits your needs. You will usually be provided with an online credit card terminal from which you would enter credit card orders by hand each evening.

What is a Payment Gateway?

A payment gateway allows your shopping cart to process credit card orders online and automatically and is highly recommended for any business that has a high volume of orders. The payment gateway allows your website to talk to your customer's bank and your bank, transferring funds automatically for you.
